Trayvon Martin, Gun Control & the Drug War: On & About This Week's Show

This week on the show I discussed the disingenuousness of Mayor Bloomberg as he says in the video below that because of loose gun laws he is concerned for the safety of his family, while he is widely quoted as having said in November that “I have my own army in the NYPD, which is the seventh biggest army in the world….I have my own State Department.” But what galls me is that he and others are using the Trayvon Martin killing to set the stage for a new push to further curtail our Second Amendment rights. Although I’m not a gunslinger myself (yet), I do believe that the Second Amendment is what stands between us and complete tyranny. Below the video are a couple of links I think may be of interest in defense of gun rights.

Being Irish Helped Me Understand the Regressive Nature of Crack

Despite my appearance (and my name!), I’m half Irish. I’m even a citizen of Ireland (and the U.S. of course) with two of my grandparents–Irish as Paddy’s Pigs–emigrating from County Mayo through Ellis Island to Brooklyn nearly a hundred years ago.
Being raised by a first generation Brooklynite of purely Irish stock, I absorbed a great deal of Irish culture, lore and attitudes. Perhaps that’s why I’m an anarcho-capitalist: Ireland, I have read, had a thousand years of non-centralized, non-coercive government which was peaceful and orderly and had the happy effect of making its untamed population difficult for the English to conquer. I only discovered this fun fact in my adult life, however. What I gleaned of Ireland in my childhood included, among other things, that the Irish, at least our line, were poor. I also got the impression that the English were not.

Where Does Eric Holder Get Off?

I have been fascinated by the grotesque disregard for human life the ATF showed in executing Operation Fast & Furious, and am further amazed that this is not blowing up like Iran-Contra. I read the Wall Street Journal cover to cover each day and rarely see even a mention of this shocking scandal. What’s worse is the self-righteous arrogance with which Attorney General Eric Holder treats Congress–it’s downright shocking! The media has the power to expose this sick operation but simply is not making it a top story.

What's Worse: Lying & Killing or Not Recycling & Being Lazy? Government is Upside Down as Usual….

Have you ever noticed how horrible government ads are? Meth billboards with bloody sputum, miserable overweight kids designed to sicken moms? These ads might not be tolerated on the grounds of decency, verity or good taste from the private sector, but the government is held to lower standards. I have long been horrified by the upside down priorities of government, not to mention that government efforts to control behavior often backfire. Prohibition led to a 400% INCREASE in alcohol

"Merry Christmas, Sheriff!" Homeland Security Treats Texas Town to a Brand New Surveillance Drone!

“What? You Don’t LOVE It?!”

I read in today’s Wall Street Journal that Homeland Security bought Montgomery County, Texas, a $300,000 surveillance drone. Not only does this smack of both the surveillance state and crony capitalism–the US government is promoting drone sales abroad as well–but it’s an abuse of taxpayers’ money to use federal funds to pad the policing power of municipalities. Federal funding of municipal responsibilities eliminates even the indirect possibility of connecting the costs and (alleged) benefits of government spending. In this case in particular, the benefits themselves are clearly mixed. The title of the article tells the story: The Law’s New Eye in the Sky: Police Departments’ Use of Drones Is Raising Concerns Over Privacy and Safety.

Feds Seize 150 Websites for Selling Counterfeit Merchandise–Kind Of

I saw this article titled “Feds seize 150 websites in counterfeit crackdown” and thought to myself, could the Feds actually be acting within the confines of normal law enforcement? After reading last week about a fisherman who was robbed by the Feds of the largest tuna ever caught, I was in the mood to have my faith in government restored. (As if!)
